New village book for Syvde in the works

Syvde Sogelag has started work on a new village book that will update the family history of Syvde on both sides of Syvdsfjorden. The book will be published in two volumes, the first covering the eastern side of the fjord and the second the western side.

The original village book for Syvde was published in 1972, but after many requests from the villagers, the parish council now wants to continue the work. Olav Myklebust, who has experience from several village book projects, has been brought in as editor. He will work in parallel on both volumes, supported by volunteer work from the parish council and local contributors.

The work involves collecting information about recent times, while updating and checking older sources. In order to realize the project, the parish team is dependent on support from villagers and sponsors.

In addition to the village book work, Syvde Sogelag has digitized Professor Arnold Nordal’s book on Syvdemålet. This is now available on the parish council’s website, and small excerpts are regularly presented in the newspaper under the column “Words about words”.
