Kvinnherad sogelag has sent a formal request to the chairmanship of the municipality to establish a municipal board for the revision and renewal of the village books. The association points out several errors in parts of the village book series and highlights volumes three and five as particularly problematic.
In the letter, the parish council writes that Bjarne Hauge, on his own initiative, has corrected errors and updated both book number two and large parts of book number three. Hauge has already put in a considerable amount of work, including collaboration with people from various villages, and he is willing to hand over his work free of charge if the municipality takes responsibility for further follow-up and new editions.
However, Sogelaget is aware that such an upgrade will be a costly process. Nevertheless, they believe that the sale of revised editions can help to cover some of the costs. «Bygdebøkene was a municipal project from the start, and we believe it should continue to be so,» the request states.
The team emphasizes that if the municipality supports the proposal, they will actively participate in the work together with a possible book committee and other teams. At the same time, they emphasize that they do not have the financial resources or capacity to lead the project.
Kvinnherad sogelag hopes that politicians will take a positive view of the initiative and ensure a continuation of the work. If the most error-ridden books are corrected and revised, the team believes that much will already have been achieved.
The proposal suggests a combination of municipal responsibility and voluntary efforts, which the parish council hopes can be a sustainable solution to ensure the quality and relevance of rural books.
