Angie Wilderman’s fascination with genealogy began with a lie. Or, perhaps it was more a misunderstanding.

A New York native who moved to the county in 1973, Wilderman had grown up hearing tales of her maternal great-grandfather’s exploits as a soldier in the Civil War. She began researching her family’s history at 16. As it turns out, her southern ancestor never served in the war at all.
