MyHeritage has launched LiveMemory™, a new feature that transforms still images into short video clips using advanced artificial intelligence (AI). This technology is available through MyHeritage’s mobile app for iOS and Android.
LiveMemory™ analyzes uploaded images and generates five-second videos that simulate realistic movements and interactions. For example, a photo of a child on a bicycle can be turned into a video of the child riding, or a wedding photo can show the couple kissing. The feature is also suitable for non-human subjects such as pets or cars, and can extend the scene beyond the original image, as if a camera is following the movements outside the frame.
Gilad Japhet, founder and CEO of MyHeritage, stated that the company wants to inspire people to connect with their family history in new and meaningful ways. He described LiveMemory™ as an optimal way to relive cherished memories captured in photos.
LiveMemory™ is the third AI-based feature from MyHeritage that animates photos. Previously, the company launched Deep Nostalgia™, which animates faces in photos, and DeepStory™, which makes family photos «talk». These features, along with other tools such as MyHeritage In Color™, Photo Enhancer, Photo Repair and AI Time Machine™ have, according to MyHeritage, been used hundreds of millions of times, sparking new interest in genealogy globally.
Although the videos generated by LiveMemory™ are highly realistic, MyHeritage emphasizes that they are reconstructions made by AI and not real footage. To ensure responsible use of the technology, watermarks are added to the videos to distinguish them from authentic footage.
