If you have relatives from Buskerud who owned a car before the war, there’s a good chance you can now look them up here on Slekt1. We’ve just added cars and their owners from the 1933 Aust-Agder car registry.
In 1933, 4,142 cars were registered with F license plates in Buskerud; two years later, in 1935, we can see through the «Finn slekt» service here on Slekt1 that the number of cars had decreased by 3,837. This suggests that the 1935 Norwegian Vehicle Register likely did not include all cars registered in Buskerud, since the number of cars in Norway was on the rise.
With «Shared search» you can search all the searchable car books we have and see the history of license plate numbers and names. Since names can have been spelled differently, it may be worthwhile to search a bit strategically. The hit list above shows a search for «Hamsun».
Now that it is also possible to search for cars and owners in the "Bilbok for Buskerud 1933" database within the Finn slekt service here on Slekt1, the database contains over 450,000 cars and car owners from across the country over the years.
We are now working on preparing even more car books in the coming days and weeks.
There are a number of car books from Norway published before and after World War II. Unfortunately, few have been preserved in library collections, and many are therefore only found in private collections. If you have one of the earlier published car books from Norway, we would be interested in hear from you.
You can search for car owner names in the collection completely free of charge., but access to other information about the car requires a subscription here at Slekt1.
