Slekt1 was established on May 14, 2008, and today functions primarily as an online magazine for those interested in family and local history. The website also provides an overview of published rural and family history books.

Slekt1 is Norway's fifth largest website for genealogists, with around 500,000 page views per year. Around 55% of all visitors use a mobile device such as a tablet or mobile phone when they visit Slekt1.
