About patients at the Kurhuset in Östersund 1817-1866

Here you can search through all persons who were registered as patients at the Kurhuset in Östersund during the period 1817-11866. The town is located in Jämtland County and was under Norwegian rule from the end of the 12th century until it was ceded to Sweden in the Treaty of Brömsebro in 1645.

The Kurhuset played a key role in, among other things, combating the sexually transmitted disease syphilis. The disease affected men and women in their prime, people who were important for maintaining military services and agriculture, among other things. Those infected with syphilis were to be kept strictly separate from other patients at the Kurhuset.
