The authors and Salangen municipality were initially upheld by the District Court, but the Court of Appeal has now ruled that the collected material belongs to the municipalities that decided to start the village book project.
The conflict intensified in 2008 when the archive was closed and the debate has since raged in several of the local newspapers. Now it remains to be seen how many village books will be published about Astafjorden.
