When Ron Cole, a retired farmer from Saskatchewan, Canada, accidentally came across an envelope of old photos, a picture fell out. The picture shows himself on the beach in Ottawa with his childhood friend Duncan Cumming.
Just two days later, Ron received a call from Parent Finders Ottawa telling him that his childhood friend Duncan was actually his brother. At first Ron suspected it was all a phone scam, but the woman on the phone knew so much about his past that he let her keep talking.
Ron Cole had known since the age of 12 that he was adopted, but had never bothered to dig deeper into his unknown past. That is, until a genealogist friend convinced him over 10 years ago to send an email to Parent Finders Ottawa. The email was never answered and Ron forgot about the inquiry, until this phone call.
His brother Duncan Cumming had contacted Parent Finders Ottawa as early as 25 years ago, but it would take another ten years after his brother Ron also contacted the volunteer organization that the two were actually identified as brothers.
On September 4 this year, the two will meet for the first time in years, as brothers. Together, with Parent Finders, they will try to find a common unknown sister.
