As a result of more than 400 years under Danish rule, the Norwegian language has naturally been influenced by the Danish language. Historical sources may also contain words that we do not find as natural to understand today as we did 2-300 years ago.
We even have a historical dictionary i Norge, written by Steinar Imsen and Harald Winge in 1999, which covers the period 1500-1800. For the Danish "historical" language, there is a separate website that deals with the language in the period 1700-1950.
