The book is easily searchable and starts with a description of the parish. Marie Renken has written about 3978 families, a total of 15,000 people! She has described the farms they came from, their occupations, dates of birth, marriage and death. All within the German rules for blocking periods, which are 30 years for deaths, 80 years for marriages and 110 years for births.
The mouse is a voluntary, registered organization in Bremen and on their website there are several available «Ortsfamilienbücher» as well as other information to help with genealogical research in the area.
The decision to name the association «Die Maus», The Mouse, was made at the founding meeting on March 20, 1924, when six active genealogists met in one of the rooms of the Bremer Ratsstuben. The room was called «Mausefalle», Mouse Trap. The new genealogical society thought that Musen was an appropriate name for the association because a mouse must be diligent and busy finding food out in nature. A genealogist searching for his or her ancestors must be just as diligent and busy.
