The book was launched during an event at Hurum residential and care center.

Hurum farm and family history contains genealogical information on over 50,000 people who have lived in Hurum from the Middle Ages to the present day. The books also contain the property history of several hundred properties. The work is based on thorough research of a large number of sources and is a solid piece of historical basic research.

Among other things, the books provide insight into the origins of farm names and place names, cultural heritage sites, and who has owned, used, and lived on the farms, smallholdings, and crofts in the village at any given time. The books trace the lives of all the people mentioned in the sources, from nobles and large farmers to tenant farmers, laborers, and servants. There are thousands of cross-references between all the properties, making it easy to follow who is related to whom.

The book is richly illustrated with maps and photographs, many of which have never been published before.

Hurum farm and family history is the result of extensive voluntary work spanning 17 years. Books of this kind are usually commissioned by a municipality and written by paid authors. Hurum farm and family history was written by an editorial group consisting of five members of the historical society. The editorial team has ensured external reviews and professional quality assurance of the content of the books.

The book completes a local history project that began back in the 1960s. Until now, Hurum has been one of the few old rural municipalities in the former Buskerud county that did not have such a work.

The first two volumes are now being published. They are 1,200 pages long and cover all the farms and crofts on Hurum. The third and final volume is scheduled to be published in about a year and will contain the settlements and name registers.

The books can be ordered on the Hurum Historical Society's website.
