MyHeritage acquires BackupMyTree.com

The Israel-based company MyHeritage has recently acquired the barely one-year-old website BackupMyTree.com.

BackupMyTree searches for family tree files on your PC and creates a backup of them online. The backup is compatible with several well-known genealogy programs, and at the time of writing the service stores as much as 9 terabytes of family data.

The man behind the site is Clifff Shaw. You may not recognize the name, but this is the same person behind GenCircles and the Family Tree Legacies program, which was also acquired by MyHeritage. Shaw will now turn his focus to the search engine for genealogists Mocavo.com.
