A man in his 90s tells Adresseavisen that his life will be ruined if people he knows read the book. The man was a state police officer during the war, a story that very few of his loved ones today are aware of.

In a way, this dilemma also affects us genealogists: what can we actually write about living people? When does their story become «fair game»?

The author, who works as a security manager and reporter for NRK Dagsrevyen, tells NRK that he doesn't want to single people out, but that having been convicted of treason is not a private matter.

Erik Veum has already published the book «Those who fell«, which pays tribute to the Norwegians who were killed in German war service.

The State Police was to function as a loyal Norwegian police force to the occupying power. They had departments in Oslo, Kristiansand, Stavanger, Bergen, Trondheim, Tromsø and Kirkenes. The most important tasks were to uncover resistance work, refugee transportation and acts of sabotage.
