Access to the Car Calendar for Møre og Romsdal has been provided by Sverre Barstad, who has also provided access to the Car Calendar for Sør-Trøndelag and Nord-Trøndelag for the same year. These will also be published as searchable collections here on Slekt1 in late summer/early fall.

The vehicle register contains registered “motor vehicles” as of February 15, 1964.

In the Vehicle Register, you can find information such as the name of the vehicle owner, where the owner was registered as residing, the make of the vehicle, the model year of the vehicle, and the registration number.

Car books contain information about previous owners of a vehicle, which can help genealogists track a person's movements over time. Normally, you would have to track down these books and look them up numerous times, but at Slekt1, you can, through joint search, search simultaneously in nearly 400,000 entries, primarily from the period before World War II.

The history of a vehicle can provide context for a family's economic status and lifestyle, based on the type of vehicle they owned.

The photo above shows Geiranger towards Ørnevegen sometime in 1962. A search in the 1964 car calendar for Møre og Romsdal shows that the car (at least two years later) was registered to Blindheim møbelfabrikk AS. The car was probably brand new the year the photo was taken, as we can see from the car calendar that it is a 1962 model of the Austin brand.
