Cars and car owners from Oppland in 1926, searchable on Slekt1

We recently added 1,360 cars and their owners from Oppland in 1926 to our service Find Genealogy, here at Slekt1.com. This means that you can now search over 127,000 cars and car owners from Norway, primarily before World War II.

Across Norway, the number of car owners increased fairly rapidly, although it really picked up after the Second World War when the rationing of cars ended. From 1925 to 1926, the number of cars and car owners registered in Oppland increased by over 20%.

Ten years later in 1935, the number had more than doubled to 2,898 cars.

In the 1926 Car Book, you can look up:

  • Owner's name and title/occupation, if applicable
  • Place of residence (in some cases, you will also be given the exact street address here)
  • The make of the car and what it was used for
  • The car's registration number

Since the place of residence is also listed, the car books can be a useful clue if your ancestors moved around a lot. The exact street address is not always given, but you can usually find out the city/town and county through the car books.

It costs both time and money to have genealogical sources transcribed. This means that a search is free, but if you want to see more than the name of the owner, you must have a subscription to Slekt1. If you have a subscription, we reward you with the opportunity to search all car books at the same time, which we have transcribed so far.

By subscribing to Slekt1, you not only gain access to more of our content, but you also support the further development of the website.
