In the period from 1842 to 1902, a total of 188 people were sentenced to death in Norway. Despite the high number, only 20 of these death sentences were carried out. When the civilian death penalty was abolished in 1902, it was actually 26 years since anyone had been executed in Norway. The unfortunate one was Kristoffer Nilsen Svartbækken Grindalen.
