The coastal community of Flora has a post-World War II history as varied as the weather in western Norway. Storms have given way to calm, but dark clouds have again given way to the sun. The herring disappeared after the golden years of 1948-57, but Ankerløkken built itself up as the great industrial locomotive in Sunnfjord. The shipbuilding industry struggled in the face of heavy headwinds, but the oil age made its entrance and created new jobs. Fishermen became fewer, but there were many more of the tame salmon that swam around in cages. The History of Flora Volume 3 covers the period from 1945 to 2017 and the major changes the town and surrounding area have undergone during this period. New welfare measures and new technology have left their mark on daily life in Flora, and the renaissance of coastal culture has created greater cultural self-confidence. At the same time, the structure of the business community has made the people here more exposed to economic fluctuations than in many other places. The book follows the community of Flora both in times of prosperity and decline. It is richly illustrated.
