Volume 5 of Bygdebok for Eid comprises 21 cadastral farms in the Haugen and Hjelmelandsdalen hamlets. They make up Haugen krins on the north side of Eidsfjorden, west of Nordfjordeid. The road over Brekka, from Naustdal to Bjørkedalen, ran like a lifeline through this village right up to modern times, with Naustdal as an important hub and the magistrate in Nordfjord with his seat at Løken until 1957. The purpose of the book is to describe the development of Haugen and Hjelmelandsdalen in words and pictures, and to serve as a reference book for people and businesses. The book is richly illustrated with old and new pictures.
