This is the first of two volumes of rural history for the entire municipality of Inderøy for the period after 1800. Inderøy is a fjord and agricultural municipality at the heart of the Trondheim Fjord. 100 years ago, this area consisted of five municipalities. This is history seen from below, with an emphasis on mobility and change. The title «Bygd i bevegelse» (Village on the move) challenges the view of the old rural community as stable and unchanging. The people of the 19th century were on the move. They were on the move to seek better conditions, they traveled to get an education and seek new ideas, and they traveled to sell and buy goods. That's why this is also a story about yachts, steamships, railways and other forms of communication. The story is told in a personal way. The changes in livelihoods and livelihoods are depicted with an eye to how this worked out for different groups: landowners, farmers, farmers' wives, crofters, servants, workers, fishermen, yachtsmen, craftsmen, tradesmen, schoolteachers and more. The living conditions of old and sick people who were outside the workforce will also be highlighted. Astrid Wale (b. 1958) has a PhD in history, and has previously written about the history of Orkdal municipality, Trondheim Energiverk, Den allmennvitenskapelige høgskolen / Universitetet i Trondheim, Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab and Norges geologiske undersøkelse.
