«The author of this book is Erland de Flon, who belongs to the third generation of de Flons born on Gotland. My great-grandfather Gustaf Gilius de Flon came to Gothem on Gotland in 1846. He was born in Gärdserum, Småland, where the de Flon family lived at Tingetorp, as an armorer for several generations. His grandfather's, great-grandfather's, grandfather's grandfather is the book's main character, mill owner Gilius de Flon. Gilius de Flon is the son of Jean Constant de Flon from Bordeaux in France and his wife Maria de Besche from Liège in Belgium. When Louis De Geer and Willem De Besche began recruiting Walloons to the ironworks in Sweden in the 1620s from the area around Liège, Willem's nephew Gilius was the first of the de Flon family to come to Sweden. He is documented from that time in Finspång and Norrköping, as a shaper and foundryman. In 1635, Gilius de Flon built a bar iron hammer in Lotorp. «Master Gilius» then worked in Lotorp outside Finspång until his death in 1669. The book contains my collected information about the descendants of Gilius de Flon, including husband, wife or cohabitant, 2,580 people from 1,706 different sources and a personal register with 1,714 descendants from the beginning of the 17th century until 1941.»
