H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon will visit the National Archives at Sognsvann in Oslo on September 1, 2021 at 10:00.
The National Archives maintains Norway's largest collection of medieval documents. In the period 2017-2019, a significant amount of medieval records were digitized and made available to everyone at Digitalarkivet.no. This opens up for new use and research.
During the visit, the Crown Prince will learn more about the work of digitizing the medieval sources, and what opportunities the use of technology/artificial intelligence on nearly 1000-year-old sources provides. The program also includes a guided tour of the medieval collection in the National Archives' warehouse.
The National Archives' ambition is for all documents from the Middle Ages (in the National Archives' collection) to be available digitally before the big anniversary in 2024, when it is 750 years since Magnus Lagabøte introduced the first law that applied to the whole of Norway (Landslova).
The Mayor of Oslo, Marianne Borgen, will also be present during the Crown Prince's visit.
Time: Wednesday, September 01 at 10:00 am
City: The National Archives building at Sognsvann in Oslo, Sognsveien 221.
