Work on the Skiptvet village book, which has been ongoing since 1983, is now nearing completion. The plan is for the eighth and final volume to be ready for printing in 2028. So far, six volumes have been published, covering both the farm and family history of Skiptvet, as well as general local history.

The project has had a demanding journey. In 2023, it was in danger of being halted when it was cut from the municipal budget, but support from both the mayor’s office and volunteers has ensured further progress. Recently, the chairmanship of the municipality unanimously decided to increase efforts to complete the project, including by expanding a half-time position for the author to a full-time position. NOK 150,000 in external support has also been secured.

Bygdeboken is described as a unique and comprehensive project, with much of the work being carried out by volunteers. Mayor Cecilie Agnalt has stated that it is important to complete the project while key people can still contribute. The funding from the municipality only covers a small part of the effort, which is largely based on voluntary work through the village book committee.

The completion of the local history book will mark the end of a project that has been a significant part of Skipvnet’s local history work for decades.

These volumes have so far been published in the Skiptvet village book:
