From Christiania to New Zealand on the boat Høvding (with lists of passengers and emigrants)

The sailing ship Høvding was used to transport Scandinavians to New Zealand over 140 years ago.

Approximately 360 Norwegians and 11 Swedes wanted to try their luck in New Zealand and arrived in the city on September 15, 1872. Because the boat left from Tønsberg, it was natural that many of the Norwegian immigrants came from Vestfold and from Glemmen and Tune in Østfold on the other side of the Oslofjord.
