Sea people and fjord people

Sunnfjord is home to three peoples - the sea people, the fjord people and the valley people - and the first two are found in Askvoll municipality. The way of life differs between them, and this has left its mark on the historical development of the district. This is the first volume of the general history of Askvoll municipality, which tells the story of the life of the sea people and the fjord people through changing times - in stagnation and progress, in hardship and prosperity, in war and peace. The book covers developments from the earliest times until around 1865. It is divided into seven sections, each covering a different period: the Geological Age, the Stone Age and Bronze Age, the Iron Age, the Middle Ages, the Early Modern Age, the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century.
