Kulturminnesøk contains more than 220,000 registrations of cultural environments, cultural heritage and landscapes. The database will now be launched in a new guise, with better functionality and easier access for the public.
The Directorate for Cultural Heritage's database contains thousands of cultural monuments, ranging from archaeological cultural monuments to listed buildings. On Kulturminnesøk you can search for cultural monuments where you live or in other counties, search for individual topics or explore directly in maps. The solution is based on data from the National Heritage Board's Askeladden database, as well as contributions from private individuals, historical societies, voluntary associations and teams, and other interested parties.
- Kulturminnesøk is Norway's database for cultural heritage, cultural environments and landscapes. Here you can easily find cultural monuments where you live or are traveling," says Hanna Geiran, Minister of Cultural Heritage.
New cultural monuments are added daily when county authorities, museums, municipalities, the Sami Parliament and the Directorate for Cultural Heritage register and update the content of Askeladden. Kulturminnesøk is an open website. It is designed so that anyone who wants to showcase a cultural monument can create a user and register it. Cultural heritage search should be easy to use for most people.
- "There are many people out there who have fantastic stories linked to cultural heritage and cultural environments in their local area. We therefore hope that as many people as possible will use the solution and register their stories in Kulturminnesøk," says Hanna Geiran, Minister of Cultural Heritage.
New features
The relaunch gives the website a new look. In addition, there will be new functionality, both in the interface, search options and map functionality. All content will also be transferred to the new solution. Kulturminnesøk is a service from the Directorate for Cultural Heritage and is run by an editorial team. Most of the information about cultural monuments in Kulturminnesøk comes from the cultural heritage database Askeladden, which is also operated by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage. The other cultural monuments are entered as contributions from committed, voluntary users.
Cultural heritage searches are largely based on voluntary efforts. Those who want to use the service can easily create a user and quickly start registering cultural heritage.
