Today sees the launch of the first volume of a new rural history book for Flosta in Aust-Agder. The author of volume 1, which is entitled «Sjøfart : The forest, the wind and the sea», is Dag Bakka Jr. The author is no stranger to seafaring, as he has already written some 30 books on shipping, seafaring environments, shipping companies, marine insurance and ship brokerage. See the authorship of Dag Bakka.
Flosta municipality was founded in 1902, but the book starts back in the 17th century and shows how national and international politics laid the foundation for shipping in general and for Southern Norway and Flosta in particular.
Flosta Historielag is behind the book, which is planned to be the first of a total of three books about Flosta's history. Book number two may be of particular interest to genealogists, as it will focus on farm and family history. The third book is planned to be about culture and business.
