The fall of 1879 marked the beginning of the end for the marriage between Bernt Julius Muus and Oline Muus, when Oline took her husband to court for neglecting her and the children over several years, as well as embezzling money. The trial caused the biggest social scandal ever in Norwegian America, and journalists reported updates in both America and Norway.
