Recently, Bilboka from 1927 was transcribed here at Slekt1 and with it, a total of 29,179 cars and car owners are searchable on Slekt1. In total, we now have over 300,000 cars and car owners searchable, primarily from the time before World War II.
So if your ancestors owned one or more cars during this period, there's a good chance you'll find them on Slekt1.
In the 1927 Car Book, you can look up:
- Owner's name and title/occupation, if applicable
- Place of residence (in some cases, you will also be given the exact street address here)
- The make of the car and what it was used for
- The car's registration number
It is therefore a great source of family history spice that complements more traditional family history sources such as church books, censuses, village books, etc.
Since Slekt1 now has over 300,000 records of car owners, primarily from the period before the Second World War, you can also follow the history of both car and owner to some extent. How long did the family actually own the Ford? Through the common search, you can search in several car books at the same time and get a nice hit list that shows hits from several car books at the same time.
However, as with any transcription, mistakes can occur, so you may want to try several ways of spelling the owner's name, for example.
Do you have a car book we don't have?
There are a number of car books from all over the country, some national while others are regional. We have several car books ready for transcription and publication here at Slekt1, but we are always on the lookout for other regional car books as there may be a risk that several have been lost. If you have a car book, please contact Slekt1 (post@slekt1.com), and we can help you get it transcribed.
Ideally, the book should also be sent to the National Library of Norway for preservation, which may be a good idea to clarify with potential heirs.
