The car book contains information about car owners (and some motorcycle owners) from all over Rogaland, a total of 6176 entries.

If you find a relative or maybe you have an old car you want to check out, then you can through Bilboken for Rogaland 1939 find information like:

  • Registration number
  • Name and possibly title of owner
  • Address
  • What the vehicle was used for
  • Manufacturer
  • Place of registration

Car books contain information about previous owners of a vehicle, which can help genealogists track a person's movements over time. Normally, you would have to track down these books and look them up numerous times, but at Slekt1, you can, through joint search, search simultaneously in nearly 400,000 entries, primarily from the period before World War II.

The history of a vehicle can provide context for a family's economic status and lifestyle, based on the type of vehicle they owned.

The picture above shows a stormy day on the quay in Stavanger in 1934. In the picture we can see a truck with the license plate L430, which in the joint search shows that it was probably owned by Aksel Melberg (found in Norway's car book 1935), registered in Peder Klowsgt. 34. The truck was a Ford and we may be able to glimpse the car owner driving in the water. In the Rogaland 1939 car book, the car is still registered to Aksel and we can also see that he still lives at the same address (and has the same truck).
