Styrk the café owner knew everyone and everyone knew him. When he had a stroke, he lost his ability to speak. He never got to say who would inherit his millions.
While he was well-liked and knew everyone, Styrk was withdrawn and alone.
Styrk ran the «Vangen Cafe» in Voss for many years. Tarjei Strøm starts the hunt by contacting his colleague Linda Eide from NRK, who comes from Voss. She knew the café well, but had less knowledge about Styrk.
The hunt for the millionaire heir begins in Voss, where Styrk lived and died. Here he first meets Anita and Anlaug, who worked in Styrk's café. They have taken over the café name and carried on the institution in Voss.
It emerges that Styrk was a good boss, but at the same time private. He didn't talk much about his family, but Anlaug remembers that he once mentioned relatives in America. This is new information for Tarjei, which had not previously come to light when the authorities were looking for heirs.
Tarjei quickly decides that it is necessary to follow the American trail.
But first he meets Erik Østli, who shows him around Styrk's old café. Inside, he is presented with a number of papers from Styrk's life, which the new owners of the building have found in a safe.
The papers are also unique material that was not known and could be used when the estate was settled. This gives Tarjei Strøm and Kai-Samuel a good start to their hunt.
Kai-Samuel is also overwhelmed by the huge amount of paper that Tarjei has gained access to after his visit to Voss.
According to public records, Styrk died childless and Kai-Samuel and Tarjei find no trace of children.
Through the papers from the safe, they find out that Styrk also lost both parents and his only brother quite early on. This means that if Kai-Samuel and Tarjei are to find heirs, they must go through Styrk's grandparents. If there are no relatives in the USA....
Styrk's father Knut Karl Lirhus lived in the USA in his younger years, could there be any half-siblings there? His father certainly had several siblings, but today only the children of Styrk's cousins are alive and they have no right of inheritance. Kai-Samuel nevertheless suggests that they could be the source of more knowledge about the family and possible heirs of Styrk.
The work seems fruitless and the archives give no sign of heirs, but some information never reaches the archives. Some information remains in the families.
