3352 cars and their owners from Vestfold in 1930, now searchable on Slekt1

On April 20, 1929, Vestfold County started using the letter Z on all registration numbers. Until then, the letter G had adorned all license plates.

In the Bilboka from 1930, all cars are listed with the letter G, as they were still valid. It wasn't until January 1, 1931 that G plates were considered invalid.

Now 3,352 cars and their owners have been added, as they were registered in Bilboka from 1930.

Four years earlier, «only» 1,848 vehicles were registered on Norwegian roads with Vestfold plates. If we look at Norway's 1935 car book, the number had increased to 4723.

In the 1930 Car Book, you can look up:

  • Owner's name and title/occupation, if applicable
  • Place of residence (in some cases, you will also be given the exact street address here)
  • The make of the car and what it was used for
  • The car's registration number

Since the place of residence is also listed, the car books can be a useful clue if your ancestors moved around a lot. The exact street address is not always given, but you can usually find out the city/town and county through the car books.
