Bilboka 1930 is transcribed - all car owners in Oslo are now searchable

Car books are a fun way to follow relatives who owned cars in a slightly different way. They usually list the place of residence, type of car, and what it was used for.

In 1926, 5,773 cars were registered in the city of Oslo, which was an increase from 5,169 cars the year before. Four years later, in 1930, the number had risen to 7987 cars with an A plate.

In addition to telling more about private individuals, the car book is also a unique insight into which businesses (that owned cars) existed around Norway in 1930. For example, Vinmonopolet, which was located in Rådhusgata, was a major consumer of cars. However, the number of cars was somewhat reduced from four years ago, when as many as 34 cars were registered to Vinmonopolet A/S. In 1930, the number was reduced to 27.
