The work of transcribing the 1927 Car Register is progressing. Recently, all vehicles registered with the letter D were included in our searchable database, which means that all car owners from Hedmark in 1927 are now searchable on Slekt1.
This initiative is part of Slekt1.com's larger effort to transcribe car books in their entirety, with the goal of providing a complete and searchable resource for genealogists, history enthusiasts, and car enthusiasts across the country. Through joint search you can now search over 286,000 records, primarily from the period before World War II.
Through the joint search, it is also possible to track a registration number over several years. The picture above shows a car in 1914 with the license plate D494. This is probably a car that was owned by Trysil Automobil by Olaus Rønningen, unless it had changed owners before Bilboka 1916 was written.
Although the car was probably replaced, it can be seen that there was eventually a Mart. M. Skaare who used registration number D494 for a while, before P. A. Fredsvold was the owner of these plates in 1935. By clicking on «Details» (requires subscription), it is also possible to track developments in the car brand and place of residence of the car owner, if this information has been registered.
In the 1927 Car Book, you can look up:
- Owner's name and title/occupation, if applicable
- Place of residence (in some cases, you will also be given the exact street address here)
- The make of the car and what it was used for
- The car's registration number
